Groundwater Management Open House: Wednesday, August 29

Did you know that the Calaveras County Water District has partnered with Calaveras County, Stanislaus County and Rock Creek Water District to manage the portions of the Eastern San Joaquin Groundwater Basin within their governing areas? This group of four agencies has joined together to form the Eastside Groundwater Sustainability Agency (Eastside GSA). The Eastside GSA participates in a Joint Powers Authority along with other local agencies in San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties called the Eastern San Joaquin Groundwater Authority (ESJGA). The ESJGA is working to develop a state-mandated Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP) by January 1, 2020, that will ensure the basin reaches “sustainability” over a 50-year planning horizon, per the requirements of the 2014 Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA).

Public input is an important part of this planning process, and that’s why the ESJGA is holding a series of public meetings to educate the region about the SGMA planning process and receive input on how to better manage our groundwater basin. You’re invited to attend the first open house from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Robert J. Cabral Agricultural Center, Calaveras Room, at 2101 E. Earhart Avenue, Stockton.  You will learn about sustainable groundwater management and have the opportunity to ask questions and provide input about the GSP. Additional public meetings will be held between now and summer 2019.

For questions about the workshop, please call (209) 468-3089 or email ESJgroundwater@sjgov.org.
We hope to see you at the open house!
