The Calaveras County Water District (CCWD) is addressing reports of discolored water in the West Point area. This issue is believed to be caused by suspected water theft, where unauthorized use of fire hydrants has disturbed sediment in the pipelines, leading to discoloration in the water supply.

Important Note: The Water is Safe

While the water may appear discolored, it remains safe for household use. Our water treatment process continues to meet all state and federal safety standards. The sediment causing the discoloration does not pose a health risk.

What You Can Do

We ask for your help in reporting any suspicious activity, especially around CCWD fire hydrants or infrastructure. If you witness water theft or any unusual activity, please notify the District immediately.

Additional Information:

• CCWD crews are working diligently to flush the system and clear the sediment that has caused the discoloration.
• During this flushing process, water may flow between different zones, potentially leading to a temporary chlorine odor. Running your tap for 30 seconds to a minute should help eliminate the smell.
